V Dining Restaurant by V Zug (Closed)

We visited V Dining restaurant at Scotts Square when it first opened in 2019. It made a great first impression on us. We revisited V Dining recently. The food is still very good.

V Dining Restaurant

We first visited the Modern-European fine dining restaurant by V-ZUG in early 2019. You can read our post V Dining Restaurant, Scotts Square by V Zug – friendly fine dining.

After almost 2 years, V Dining Restaurant is still impressive – right from the narrow walkway with walls adorned with modern art pieces to great view of Orchard Road from the cozy but elegant dining hall.

The V Dining Menu

The V Dining Menu changes from time to time. In January, it has a Lunch Menu for $88 and a 3 Course Executive Set Lunch for $48.

The drinks list offered for lunch is a simple one – but you can have champagne if you want.

We opted for the Lunch Menu and one of us decided on the Wagyu Striploin for the main course (which entailed an addon of $55).

The Starters

Lunch started with bread and some fancy butter, both of which were very good.

The starters were all beautifully plated. They were edible art.

The Oyster Pearl, nasturtium kimchi Orange brined kohlrabi was a great introduction to the meal. The oyster came in the form of oyster ice cream. The cold white chocolate like ball would burst in the mouth. The taste and smooth and creamy texture really pleased the senses.

Braised Taro with Parmesan, Onion & Braising Liquori at V Dining Restaurant

The Braised Taro with Parmesan, Onion & Braising Liquor was a sweet-savoury dish with simple ingredients presented in a novel and interesting way. We never thought braised taro pan-fried with butter could be so palatable.

Hokkaido scallop, smoked butter with caviar at V Dining Restaurant

The Hokkaido scallop, smoked butter with caviar was the best dish of the meal. It had everything expected of a good luxurious dish – great ingredients, elements worked together harmoniously, creative presentation and something truly joyful to eat.

The Main Course

The Wagyu striploin (100g), A4 Tochigi prefecture, pickles & preserves looked simple compared to the starters. The star of the dish was obviously meant to be the 2 small pieces of beef. The meat was richly marbled and had a soft, tender texture. It was quite a lot of money to pay for the beef but it was really delicious.

Pork loin, bone marrow, roselle, beetroot

The Pork loin, bone marrow, roselle, beetroot was a meaty dish balanced by pickled vegetables. It was a nice dish but rendered ordinary by comparison to the stellar qualities of the other dishes.

The Dessert

brown rice and miso amazake icecream at V Dining

The dessert was something rather unusual – brown rice and miso amazake icecream, with freeze dried pomelo (we were told, although the menu said mandarin). It tasted as good as it looked. A very delightful and enjoyable dessert.

Very Good Lunch

We had a very good lunch at V Dining Restaurant. The service was friendly, though not quite as polished as we had expected. The place has a great atmosphere and a great view. The prices are reasonable, especially if you opt for the set lunch without addon. The highlight of a meal at V Dining is the food – unconventional creations with looks and personality – food that pleases the senses. It was a revisit but V Dining Restaurant by V Zug still left a great impression.
