What to eat at Rail Mall? This is our 2021 list of Rail Mall food outlets and restaurants to guide you. With the opening of Hillview MRT station and the development of the Singapore Rail Corridor, Rail Mall is gaining popularity as a place for casual dining in Upper Bukit Timah.
Rail Mall is an easy starting point to explore the Rail Corridor (Central segment). With a few rail bridges within walking distance – the Hillview Bridge, the Upper Bukit Timah Truss Bridge at its doorstep and the Bukit Timah Bridge (40 minutes walk), it is convenient to use Rail Mall as a start and end place for a two-hour walk. Food and drinks are close by at the end. If you are lucky, you can find a free parking lot as well.
Rail Mall Parking: Good news and Bad news
The Rail Mall is a stretch of single-storey shops that run parallel to Upper Bukit Timah Road. It comprises 43 single-storey shop units and 95 private carpark lots. In 2018, the mall was acquired by SPH Reits. The bad news is that parking barriers been erected putting to an end to the previous free-parking at Rail Mall. The good news is that they had not boarded up the whole place. Some parking lots and the space along the shops are outside the barriers. So there are still some free parking lots for the lucky ones.
Apart from the parking, the other visible change since SPH Reits took over are the Trompe-l’œil paintings on some of the walls to recreate a look of rustic houses and the old Bukit Timah railway station. I think that they are very well done, especially the train station one (top picture of this post).
The Rail Mall Food Outlets Near the Rail Bridge
The Rail Mall shops are organised in two separate blocks with the carpark in between them. We begin our list of Rail Mall food outlets and restaurants with the shorter block near the railway bridge and tracks.
