As a break from Chinese food during the 2021 CNY period, we decided to go to a Bukit Timah Italian restaurant for an Italian meal. Our dinner was sumptous and the damage to wallet turned out to be not too painful.
We had been to Amano Italian restaurant before for lunch for the reasonably priced $18.90 set lunch (you can read about it here). Our return dinner to this Bukit Timah Italian restaurant was a more substantial meal of steak and Italian classic dishes.
The Amano Super Deal
Posted on the wall of the Italian restaurant were some specials – Amano pizza takeaway special, 2nd Main at 50% weekdays etc. Who can resist the words “Super Deal”: 1.2kg Australian grain-fed prime rib, a pizza and fries for $89.90. Pay an additional $35 for a bottle of wine (choice of Prosecco, red or white). We decided to go with this deal and supplemented it with some other items from the a la carte menu.
We chose the red white. This is what we got a bottle of 2018 Tasca d’Almerita Regaleali Nero D’Avola. It was not very complex, but as with many Italian wines, it goes well with food. We had low expectations of a $35 wine in a restaurant, but this was not bad.
Our Bukit Timah Italian Restaurant Dinner
Our dinner started off with some pasta dishes and calamari. The calamari was a tad dry but was rescued by the delicious sauce.
We tried the aglio olio pasta with an extra topping of parma ham ($15 + $7). The pasta was very good – good taste and chewy texture, but we could have saved the $7 by not adding the parma ham which did nothing to improve the pasta. The beef lasagna ($24) was the best of the starters.
As part of the Super Deal we could choose any pizza on the menu. We selected the Meat Lover pizza (menu price was $27). This pizza topped with pepperoni, fennel sausage, grilled chicken chunks and bacon had a meaty taste. We enjoyed the pizza so much we ordered another one – Truffle Wild Mushroom (picture below left). This was just as nice.
Finally the main event: The 1.2 kg prime rib. It was a substantial platter of bone-in prime rib. Excluding the bone, there was equivalent to about three regular sized steaks. The carnivores at our dinner were pleased with it.
Dessert at dinner was Warm Lava Cake ($12 each). The warm molten chocolate cake with
vanilla gelato and fresh berries brought our meal at Amano Italian restaurant in Bukit Timah to a sweet end.
