Lumbre – new Spanish Restaurant at CHIJMES

Lumbre is a new Spanish restaurant on the beautiful grounds of CHIJMES. It offers familiar Spanish favourites as well as contemporary fusion cuisine.

Located on the ground level of CHIJMES, Lumbre Spanish Restaurant has an understated entrance. The interior is modern and elegant and yet somewhat casual. Wooden floors and furniture and an open kitchen create a warm intimate atmosphere. The main dining hall and a small dining room can accommodate about 50 guests in all.

Set Lunch at Lumbre Spanish Restaurant

The new Lumbre Spanish restaurant has a 2-course set lunch priced reasonably at $35. It is available from Tuesday to Friday (excluding public holidays). The set menu allows a choice of one from 5 starters and a main dish from three on the menu. With a $5 addon, you can get coffee and dessert.

We opted for the Grilled Cauliflower and Japanese Grilled Corn for our starters.

The Grilled Cauliflower with Tahini Sauce, or sesame paste, was a delightful healthy low-carb starter. There was a good mix of flavours and textures.

The Japanese Grilled Corn was served with sour cream sauce and Spanish salsa. The corn tasted great right off the grill. Mixed with the salsa, it was a cool salad dish.

We had the Grilled Chicken and Squid Ink Capellini for our mains.

The chicken dish was fairly straightforward – it looked like grilled chicken and tasted like grilled chicken. The marinade was the key factor – the crust that formed on the chicken from the marinade added flavours which made the dish enjoyable.

The best dish of the day was Squid Ink Capellini with Fried Baby Squids. The pasta had a very nice texture and subtle seafood taste with a hint of saltiness. The crispy baby squids made a very agreeable dish a most delightful one.

A taste of Spanish grilled dishes

Lumbre Spanish Restaurant is a cosy welcoming restaurant with an interesting selection of grilled dishes and small sharing plates as well as a few tempting desserts. It also offers a good range of boutique Spanish wines. The new restaurant can be suitable for a casual date night as well as a business lunch. The a la carte menu prices may not be low but are reasonable. The weekday set lunch deal is an affordable way to check out the new Lunbre and get a taste of Spanish grilled dishes.
