OCBC Wisma Atria branch may be the nicest bank branch in Singapore. In addition to the usual banking facilities, it has a cafe, bookshop, lifestyle retail store and auditorium. Lots of open space and modern design make this new OCBC bank branch at Orchard Road a beautiful place. This is possibly the best place to go open a CPFIS account for buying T-Bills and have lunch while waiting for your queue number to be called.
The new OCBC Wisma Atria branch is located on level 4. It takes over the large space that used to be the Japan Food Town. The Wisma Atria food court is right outside the bank. The usual OCBC branch retail services are offered at this branch. What we are more interested in are the extra features. Using the Bank’s own words: bank, dine and shop at the new OCBC Wisma Atria!
OCBC Wisma BookXcess bookshop
Apart from the banking counters, ATM and other banking facilities, the most prominent segment of the new Wisma Atria branch is the bookshop. According the OCBC website, “(k)nown as the ‘World’s Best Alternative Bookstore’, BookXcess’ mission is to encourage people to experience the joy and wonders of reading by making books affordable and accessible…”
We were impressed by the beautiful presentation of books. There is a good range of subjects covered. Children’s books are also available.
Discount for OCBC cardmembers
We had a quick look around at the new BookXcess outlet. Our impression is that their prices seem to be more wallet friendly than what we are used to. OCBC cardmembers (i.e. payment using OCBC credit or debit cards) enjoy a 10% discount for dining and shopping at Wisma Atria branch.
Shopping and Lifestyle
There is an area that is arranged like an auditorium with AV systems. That could be a useful place to hold book talks or other presentations.
Furniture, household objects and other lifestyle products are also available on display for sale.
Orange Mocha Café at OCBC Wisma Atria Branch
We were also impressed by the new Orange Mocha Café at OCBC Wisma Atria Branch. Diners have a choice of seating at a large communal table or at one of the small tables. With lots of space and being surrounded by books, it is a very pleasant cafe.
Suggestion For OCBC
The new branch layout is a refreshing and ground breaking idea. It would be even better nicer if a queue number display is located at the dining area. Banking customers can have a relaxing wait at the cafe without having to pop over at the banking sector to check on the queue status.
Orange Mocha Café Menu
Here are pictures of the Mocha Orange Cafe menu. Understandably the food choices are kept to a minimum as this is, after all a bank branch.
Set Lunch at OCBC Wisma Atria
The all day set meal ($14.98++) seemed like good value for money lunch in a beautiful in the heart of Orchard Road. It includes a choice of coffee which costs $6 if ordered individually.
Here are pictures of our lunch. For choice of main course, we tried the chicken katsu curry and salmon teriyaki. Our choice of carbo were garlic rice and aglio olio pasta.
We were happy with our choices of food that day. If forced to rank them, we prefer the katsu chicken to the teriyaki salmon as the curry was very good. We prefer the pasta over the rice as the former had a richer garlic flavour.
There was an option to add a salad for $2. It was a very small salad. We think we would skip this option the next time.
Very good coffee was served at Orange Mocha Café at OCBC Wisma Atria Branch. We appreciated the effort to make rabbit latte art in time for Chinese New Year 2023.
There was a choice of flavours for the doughnut dessert. I cannot remember what flavour we opted for but they were both decent. Overall, if we expect a long wait at OCBC bank. This would be the branch we would go to. Having a nice simple lunch while waiting for the queue to move makes the long wait more endurable.
