Tinto Restaurant @ Dempsey, Singapore – New Spanish Restaurant

Tinto Restaurant Singapore is a new Spanish restaurant that has sprouted in the Dempsey Hill dining enclave. It is helmed by Chefs Daniel and Tamara Chávez, the couple behind Peruvian restaurant, Canchita which is also at Dempsey, a stone’s throw away.

Tinto Dempsey – Main Dining Area

If the interior of the new Tinto Restaurant looks familiar it is because they have taken over the space occupied previously by the Moonbow restaurant. The new Spanish restaurant has put in some changes but the overall feel is still reminiscent of Moonbow. The main dining area looks nice and comfortable but we think the patio area at the back is even better.

We were led to the back of the restaurant and through a pair of hidden doors disguised as shelves. It led us into the bright patio area.

The Patio Area

The chequered flooring looks familiar but the patio area of the new Tinto Spanish restaurant at Dempsey wowed us. The plants and other decorative touches have transformed the area significantly. Most importantly, they have air-conditioned the area. It is now cool yet sunny and bright. Very appropriate for a Spanish restaurant.

Here are pictures of the Tinto restaurant menu. The short menu features the Signature Tinto paellas and fideuas. The latter being similar to paella but with noodles replacing the rice.

Drinks, Dessert and Coffee

I am sure there is a more comprehensive wine list at the new Tinto restaurant. For lunch these were the drinks options suggested on the placemat.

Here is the Tinto Dempsey dessert and coffee menu.

Our choice for the hot Singapore afternoon was cold Spanish beer – Estrella Galicia Draught Lager ($18 / pint).

Lunch at Tinto Restaurant Singapore : Tapas and Grilled Vegetables

Tinto Restaurant Dempsey, Tapas

Our favourite dishes of the day were the tapas. The Spanish anchovy toast ($18, picture above) and prawns cooked in roasted garlic oil ($28) were a good start to our lunch. The fragrance of the garlic oil in particular is addictive. We will surely have this again on a next visit to Tinto Dempsey.

Tinto Restaurant Gambas

We also explored the vegetarian menu at Tinto and tried the grilled vegetables dish ($28). Grilled brocollini, baby carrots, eggplant and zucchini formed the foundation of this dish. The magic potion that transformed this dish was the “mojo verde Canario” sauce. Such sauce is said to have originated from the Spanish Canary Islands. It is the green sauce at the bottom, made with cilantro, olive oil, garlic, salt and cumin. A sprinkling of cheese completed the taste.

Signature Tinto Paella

Tinto Restaurant Review -Paella

For our paella course, we selected the octopus and chorizo paella ($34). It looked and tasted delicious. My only issue with it is that the rice content was so small. With only a thin layer covering the base of the pan, this ensured that we did not gain weight from our visit to Tinto.
