Breakfast Grill is a charming breakfast & brunch cafe in East Coast Road that offers a delightful experience for coffee and sandwich lovers. It has added the sweet bonus of ice cream to its menu.
Breakfast & Brunch Restaurant @ East Coast Road
Breakfast Grill began its journey as an online store. It set up a physical store last year in East Coast Road, along the stretch between Still Road and Telok Kurua Road. The breakfast and brunch cafe is just a few doors away from the famous Beach Road Prawn Noodle House.
Curbside parking is available just outside the cafe. Here is an insider tip if you want to park near the cafe – go on a Tuesday – it would be easier to find available parking lots as the popular Beach Road Prawn Noodle House is closed on Tuesdays.
As you step into Breakfast Grill, you will be greeted by a clean and minimalist ambiance dominated by a well lit white counter. Venture further inside and you will discover rattan chairs that invite you to sink in and enjoy the warmth of the soft lighting. Modern art pieces adorn the walls and pillars, adding a touch of intrigue to the space.
Menu of Breakfast Grill
At Breakfast Grill, sammies take center stage. There are classic fillings like grilled cheeses and innovative combinations such as dorito crusted tofu and five spices deep fried chicken. The cafe also offers a selection of typical brunch dishes – including pasta, shakshouka and the it item, avocado on toast.

Brunch @ Breakfast Grill
We had brunch at Breakfast Grill recently. We ordered 2 sammies, Counter Brekkie ($13.50) and Sunday Cals ($13), as well as portobello mushroom soup ($5.50) and coffee.
It was a hot day and we were feeling peckish, so we added a refreshing iced matcha latte ($7) and a matcha cream tart ($8) to our orders.
The portobello mushroom soup was a straightforward dish with earthy and robust flavours. Each spoonful offered a harmonious balance of pleasing flavours and aromas. Good comfort food.
Sammies
The sammies in Breakfast Grill arrived wrapped in plain brown paper. It was a charming touch that built anticipation. Sandwiches snugly encased in white waxed paper bags were revealed when the brown paper packages were unwrapped.
Counter Brekkie was freshly baked brioche bread lightly toasted, with bacon, avocado, eggs and Sriracha sauce. It could pass off as a piece of modern art. It tasted as good as it looked. Each bite was a symphony of flavours, with the smoky bacon complementing the buttery avocado, while the Sriracha sauce added a spicy kick.
Unlike the Counter Brekkie, the Sunday Cals looked messy when we unwrapped it. However, looks alone would not tell the whole story. The sammie with creamy egg salad, crispy spam, bacon bits and gooey American cheddar plus house-made white onion sauce was very good. There was a heady mix of textures and flavours and each bite would excite the tastebuds and delight the palate.
Tart & Coffee
After the very good sammies, we found the matcha cream tart rather average. The tart crust was good but the green tea custard was ordinary. The coffee of Breakfast Grill was very good – both the black and white.
There was an ice cream display cabinet at the counter. We were told that it was just put in and the ice cream was premium stuff featuring top grade Japanese ingredients. We did not have room for more food but would certainly like to go back to Breakfast Grill to try their ice cream.
Spreading Loaves
Sammie is a gender-neutral name as well as a name for the food item made of two or more slices of bread, usually with well-spread butter, with a filling. Apparently, Sammie is the name of the owner of Breakfast Grill; and Sammie’s sammies have quickly become the talk of the town since Sammie started “spreading loaves” in East Coast in 2022.
Add Breakfast Grill to your list if you are looking for a good breakfast and brunch spot in East Coast or if you like delecatable sammies. The lovely cafe or breakfast and brunch restaurant with a good sense of humour has yummy sammies, very good coffee and now premium ice cream too.
