Keong Saik Bakery Chip Bee Gardens Dinner: 20% Discount and No Corkage

This poster at Keong Saik Bakery Chip Bee Gardens caught our eye. The lure of no wine corkage and a 20% discount were enough to lure us back for dinner at this cafe on the quiet side of Holland Village

20% Discount and BYOB Dinner at Keong Saik Chip Bee Gardens

Like its main branch in Keong Saik Road in the CBD, we tend to associate Keong Saik Bakery Chip Bee Gardens as a cafe for breakfast, light snacks or just coffee and desserts. You can read more about the Holland Village outlet in our post in 2022 when we visited them soon after their opening.

The cafe still has the peaceful vibes that we felt at the first visit. It looks at its best in the day time (when this picture was taken) when the retro mosaic flooring has a reflective sheen from the sunlight. With the lower pedestrian footfall on this side of Holland V in the evenings, it may be a good idea to have the promotions to draw in the dinner crowd. The 20% discount applies only from 5.30pm onwards and until 31 December 2025. BYOB no corkage also has its T & Cs – minimum spend of $100 and $25 per person.

For Starters

Aburi mentaiko potatoes ($11.90 picture above) and popcorn chicken ($12.90 picture below) were a tasty start to our meal. The crispy and salty snacks are perfect with the BYO drinks.

I am not sure if lobster or prawn was used in the making of the Tiger Prawn Lobster Bisque Pasta ($22.90) but it had a rich taste of crustaceans. A tad too salty for our taste, but otherwise delicious.

Meat Dishes

After the Japanese and Italian starters, the rest of our dishes were meat dishes that mostly had an Asian character and each was served with a bowl of rice

The Japanese Wagyu Beef Buah Keluak ($20.90, picture above) easily won the best dish of the day. The beef was extremely tender and the gravy was tasty and complex. But the buah keluak flavour could be stronger. However at this price point we thought it was good enough.

Next were the oxtail stew ($25.90, above picture) and braised chicken midwings ($13.90, picture below). Both were similar in character – dark sauce dishes with well cooked meats served with rice. Flavours were good, but again we found it a bit over salty.

Our final dish was chicken collagen soup. This one had a different character from the other meat dishes. The soup was light, felt healthy and was nicely seasoned. The chicken thigh was large and had a decent amount of meat. With a $12.90 price tag, this was the value for money dish of the day. Even better after the 20% discount.

Overall, an interesting dinner at Holland Village. The food was not gourmet. In fact they could even be central kitchen prepared (considering the limited kitchen space and manpower) but certainly did not taste like it was any worse for it.
