One Fattened Calf Burgers : Cosy Burger Joint in Fusionopolis

One Fattened Calf Burgers is a small cafe at Galaxis building in Fusionopolis that serves “handcrafted burgers made with 100% premium grass-fed beef.” It is a popular place for lunch in the One-North office area in Buona Vista, Singapore.

The JTC website describes the One North zone as follows: “As Singapore rises to become a powerhouse in the global knowledge economy, renowned enterprises are converging on one address to set up their knowledge-intensive operations: one-north.” Apparently many famous enterprises have offices in this location, such as A*Star, MediaCorp and Proctor & Gamble.

Fusionopolis is one of the zones of One North. This is apparently the inform technology, media, science and technology cluster. One of the buildings here is called Galaxis and this is where you find a good selection of restaurants on the ground floor and basement to feed the hungry office folks. One Fattened Calf Burgers is one such restaurant.

One Fattened Calf Burgers at Fusionopolis

The burger joint at Galaxis is a very small place. Half of the space is taken by the food preparation and service area. The other half is the dining area where around 15 diners can squeeze into the bench or stool seating area. It is best to avoid the peak lunch period of 12 to 1.30 pm on weekdays as it gets crowded.

Place your order at the cashier and food will be served to you. For such a hectic place, the service was remarkably calm and pleasant.

One Fattened Calf Burgers Menu

The burger menu is short and sweet. Just choose from five types of burgers. The first 3 are basically the same ($16.50 each) but with or without cheese or butter. The fourth is the OFC Goldburger ($19.50) which has an additional ingredient : their “house-special pulled beef brisket,” The final one, Impossible Burger ($21.50) is made of Impossible (non-meat) meat.

Our Burger Lunch at One North

We decided to have the Cheeseburger and GoldBurger that day. One of them was upgraded with an additional payment of $5.50 to get some regular fries and a lemon slushy.

This is a picture of the burgers when they arrived. The packaging is the best we have seen for a burger. Tight and properly fitted to a round object, this looked so neat and compact.

Once unwrapped, they looked much bigger and the tidiness was quickly overtaken by our messiness once the fillings and meat juices started escaping.

This picture shows the trimmings inside – pickles, cheese etc. The taste of the cheeseburger was good, in fact we thought it was quite close to something from Five Guys. More outstanding was the Goldburger. The beef brisket really made itself felt. With a smoky aroma and taste, it was richer and had more complexity. For an extra $3 it was worth it. In fact we would just share one on the next visit. The burger was tightly packed and substantial.
