Three by Garamika is a little Indonesian restaurant at Toa Payoh Lorong 4. New Indonesian restaurants in Singapore are uncommon. So it was quite a discovery for us to run into this restaurant in the heart of TP. It is a new-ish restaurant, having opened a year ago.
An Indonesian Restaurant in Toa Payoh
Located on the ground floor of a shophouse, Three by Garamika is in a retail and shopping zone at Lorong 4 Toa Payoh where there are many shops and restaurants. It is not very visible from afar. It is in the same block where famous soya sauce chicken restaurant Lee Fun Nam Kee Chicken Rice (which closed recently) used to be located.
The restaurant is long and narrow. Its frontage is small but it makes up for its size by the large signboard with the name in a cheery font. Even more cheery was the smile that greeted us by a lady at the reception. This was a nice start when trying out a new restaurant.
Three by Garamika Menu
The restaurant is named after three sisters – Gaby, Rachel and Mika, with middle child, Rachel Maswi, being the head chef. Together, they seem to be running a successful business. It was a full house on the day of our lunch on a week day. In Google reviews, they have an impressive 4.8 star rating from 296 reviews. Here are pictures of the some pages of the Three by Garamika Menu.
Our Indonesian Restaurant Lunch
We tried two dishes at our lunch. Ayam Bakar ($12.50) was an obvious choice as it is listed as “Rachel’s favourite” on the menu. We can see why as the grilled chicken which had been marinated with a blend of Indonesian spices which gave it a wonderful fragrance and a caramelised skin. The dish includes half an egg, some beancurd and chicken soup.
Our other dish was Gado Gado ($10.50). Basically, a mixed salad of steamed vegetables with a dollop of thick gravy made with a special peanut blend. This was delicious. It might be too big to be just an appetiser yet too boring to be eaten as a meal by itself. So sharing of the gado gado and ayam bakar was a good combination.
For drinks we had a cold ginger punch ($3.50) which was light and refreshing and a hot Indonesian ginger tea which had a more intense ginger content.
