Remember those familiar blue round tins filled with assorted Danish butter cookies from yesteryears? Leckerbaer’s modern take on those classic cookies, also known as “småkager,” looks nothing like those in the blue tins. Leckerbaer’s småkager is as pleasing to behold as it is to savour. It is perhaps a reflection of the evolution of Singapore’s culinary landscape that we can now indulge in a slice of Copenhagen’s café culture by relishing luxurious Danish butter cookies resembling miniature art pieces in the chic Scandinavian ambiance of Leckerbaer café along Keong Siak Road.
Leckerbaer @ Keong Saik
Tucked away in a shophouse along Keong Siak Road, Leckerbaer radiates a simple yet charming Scandinavian vibe. Natural light streams through the sunroof, creating a bright and airy atmosphere in the snug space. With its neat design and light wooden furniture, the place feels warm and welcoming. It is a great spot for a peaceful coffee break or a relaxed afternoon tea.
Leckerbaer Menu
Leckerbaer’s menu offers a tempting array of mini-cakes, tarts, cream puffs and ice cream sandwiches. The star attraction is the småkager. These bite-sized wonders come in an ever-changing selection of flavours, often incorporating seasonal ingredients.
In the glass display cabinets by the counter, you will find the visually appealing treats. The best way to make your selection is to approach the counter and take a closer look. If you are unsure about any of the options, the friendly staff can assist, explaining the ingredients if needed.
Coffee Break at Leckerbaer Keong Saik
We visited Leckerbaer Keong Saik for our coffee break, shortly after lunch in a nearby restaurant. We opted for a selection of four items (for $12). Each of mini-cakes and tart was a feast for the eyes before we even took a bite.
The Rhubarb & Elderflower mini-tart, a small pastry filled with cream and rhubarb compote, was good. It had a nice floral scent and tasted great too.
The Hazelnut, Mango & Yuzu cookie or mini-cake had a mix of textures and flavours. The Salted Caramel Chocolate & Ginger was a small bite packed with rich chocolate and a hint of salty caramel. The Matcha & Raspberry cookie blended the earthy taste of matcha with the sweet and tangy raspberries.
Our coffees – a flat white and Americano – were well-brewed and complemented the pastries perfectly.
A Slice of Denmark
At Leckerbaer Keong Saik, you can experience a slice of Denmark right here in Singapore. The cafe is a welcoming place where you can relax with a drink and savour some delightful pastries that are just as pleasing to the eye as they are to the taste buds.
