Go-Ang Pratunam Chicken Rice (Anchorpoint) is probably the nicest outlet of this chain of casual dining restaurants from Bangkok. With a bright and spacious interior and a prime ground floor location at Anchorpoint shopping mall at Alexandra, it is a good place to go for lunch after a fruitful shopping trip to IKEA just across the road.
Bangkok Michelin Bib Gourmand Restaurant at Anchorpoint
According to its website, Go-Ang Pratunam was established in 1960 as a food stall specialising in Hainanese chicken rice in the Pratunam district of Bangkok. The Bangkok Michelin Bib Gourmand restaurant opened its first Singapore outlets at NEX shopping mall (2018) and VIVO City (2019). Since then, several other outlets have been added.
Located on the ground floor next to the main entrance facing IKEA Alexandra (easily accessible via an overhead bridge from level 2 of IKEA Building), it is hard to miss this place.
It is quite a large restaurant. The high ceiling and bright windows gave it a welcoming feel.
This food display is also a welcoming sight.
Go-Ang Pratunam Chicken Rice (Anchorpoint) Menu
Here are pictures of some sections of the Go-Ang Pratunam (Anchorpoint) menu. Like the other outlets we have been to, we find the other dishes more interesting than the chicken rice. It is more like a tze char restaurant but with a nice comfortable setting.
Bangkok’s No. 1 Thai Chicken Rice with Tze Char Lunch
Since we were at a restaurant which is said to serve Bangkok’s No.1 Thai chicken rice, we felt that we had to have some chicken rice for lunch. But we supplemented it with some of the other dishes on the menu.
We tried both the normal roast chicken rice ($5.50, picture above) and the roast chicken thigh rice ($6.50). The chicken thigh was more juicy and better. The regular chicken would be suitable for those who prefer chicken breast which was more meaty and drier. The rice was quite flavourful but we think we can probably think of some other Singapore chicken rice places if the intention was solely focused on chicken rice.
Other Dishes
Our other dishes were Tofu with Dark Soya Sauce ($8.50, picture above), Basil Chicken with Kai Lan ($9.90, picture below) and Chai Poh (Preserved Radish) Omelette ($7.90). All of them were very good. Tasty and perfect to be eaten with plain rice. These are ordinary dishes found in many tze char places. But finding such dishes in a nice air-conditioned cafe setting in a good location made them taste even better.
On a weekday lunch, Go-Ang Pratunam Chicken Rice (Anchorpoint) was bustling with many office workers coming to Anchorpoint for lunch, but not over crowded. Service was a bit stretched as almost everyone turned up at around 12-12.30pm. But service was prompt and friendly. Perhaps on a future visit we could save some money by opting for plain rice instead of chicken rice.
