Continuing our search for healthy food restaurants, we returned to an old favourite: Bread Yard cafe. It is a small cosy place in Galaxis Building in Fusionopolis at One North. This was a cafe that we frequented some time ago but had fallen off the radar. It was time to revisit them.

A Familiar Cafe in One North
Looking back on our records, our previous visits to Bread Yard include those which we wrote about in 2016 and 2019 respectively. In addition, we had ordered food online from them. Each time we visited, the cafe seemed to have undergone a facelift and looked slightly different. In the early days, the place was used as both a bakery and cafe. It had more industrial and raw vibes. Over time it became more refined. We think that it is now at its most attractive stage (so far).

Bread Yard Cafe Menu
The food options at the cafe remain roughly the same with a focus on brunch style food and light lunch items. We notice that they serve dinner on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The brunch items are replaced by meat items in the dinner menu. Here are some screenshot pictures of the weekday lunch menu when we were there. We decided to try the Grilled Chipotle Chicken bowl ($14) and a vegetarian Mushroom Shakshuka ($16).

Healthy Lunch at Bread Yard Cafe
The Mushroom Shakshuka is a spicy tomato stew cooked with feta cheese, eggs, shitake and button mushrooms, sumac onions and pesto. It was served with a choice of bread – we picked sourdough. It was a very tasty and robust dish. The spiciness packs a punch and this will be a good wake up brunch dish on a sleepy rainy day. Our only reservation about this was the watery texture. A dryer version may perhaps be better (and easier to mop up with bread).

A good mix of various healthy ingredients was used in Bread Yard cafe bowls: spinach, arugula, organic mixed quinoa, unpolished rice, extra virgin olive oil, lemon, salt, house khobz bread and choice of dressing. We picked basil pesto. Extra virgin olive oil & balsamic cream was provided with the bread. The Grilled Chipotle Chicken bowl was topped with an adequate amount of grilled chicken.

This was a very good choice for a healthy lunch. In terms of quantity and quality of ingredients it was more than satisfactory. In fact we rate it to be very good considering the price and the salad bowl was served in proper bowls and not flimsy takeout containers.

Other baked goods are also available and on display in the shelves at the entrance of the cafe.
