Scotts Grill: New Restaurant at Shaw Centre

Scotts Grill is a new modern grill concept by the Les Amis Group. It is said to offer ” a mid-market dining experience that emphasises simplicity, quality, and a welcoming atmosphere.” We went there and tried the $46++ set lunch.

New Restaurant at Shaw Centre

The new Scotts Grill is located on the ground floor of Shaw Centre. It is on the external side of the building facing Pacific Plaza. I believe it has taken over the space previously occupied by Italian restaurant La Strada Ristorante (also by the Les Amis Group).

From what we can remember, it has a similar layout as its predecessor, La Strada Ristorante. But the new restaurant seems to have a more formal decor and atmosphere. Perhaps more steakhouse-like.

Scotts Grill Lunch Menu

Consistent with its name, grilled meats and seafood take centrestage of the Scotts Grill menu. A few pasta dishes and sides complete the a la carte menu. At lunch time the set lunch menu offers a choice of two or three course lunch at the price of $46++ or $50++ respectively. Coffee or tea is also included. Here is a picture of the Scotts Grill lunch menu.

Bread and Starters

Bread was not served as part of the set lunch at Scotts Grill. We ordered the house-made focaccia bread from the a la carte menu ($12++). It was quite a bland bread.

Fortunately, things started looking up when the starters arrived. The crispy duck leg confit salad ($5 supplement required) was impressive both in terms of taste and portion size.

In contrast, the hamachi with chilli and citrus dressing ($5 supplement required) was tiny in size. Fortunately, it tasted fabulous. Here is a closer look at the small pieces of fish in a delicious sauce.

Lunch at Scotts Grill : Main Courses

Scotts Grill Set Lunch

Our choices of main courses for lunch were Grilled Koji Black Cod with Japanese Dashi Rice (picture above) and Grilled Spanish Octopus w/ Squid Ink Risotto & Saffron Aioli (picture below). These were the ‘standard dishes’ on the menu without requiring extra payments. Yet both of them were very good. The octopus was nicely cooked to a right texture and was a good companion for the strongly flavoured squid ink risotto. This dish alone will make us want to do a return visit.

Dessert and Wine (20% Discount)

Only one dessert option was available – Signature Burnt Cheesecake. Not as outstanding as the earlier two courses, but the dessert was nice and substantial.

A few types of wines were specially featured by the restaurant at lunch. These listed wines by the bottle were available at a 20% discount. Thoughtfully they have included two half bottles for those (such as us) who are light drinkers.

Our choice of the day was a 2023 William Fรจvre, Chablis (375ml, $60++). With the discount the half bottle costs $48++ and provided just the right amount of refreshing white wine for two persons for lunch.
