Margarita’s is a Mexican restaurant at Dempsey Hill that has been there for as long as we can remember. It is a place we occasionally return to for its consistent food, attractive Mexican restaurant decor and friendly service staff. We made a visit to Dempsey Hill for a quiet Mexican lunch.

Mexican Restaurant at Dempsey Hill
We had written about Margarita’s before, both in terms of on-site dining and takeaway. Although it has been a while since our last visit, the restaurant looks roughly the same. Its dimly lit ornate interior, that is unlike any other restaurant at Dempsey Hill, still looks cosy and inviting. The restaurant layout makes it a good place to host a meal. Group photos will look very good with the dark walled interior as a backdrop. You can read our 2015 post for more pictures of the restaurant.

Margarita’s Dempsey Menu
The menu contains the usual Mexican restaurant dishes. And, as we discovered on this visit, the taste and quality of food has remained consistently good over the years. Here are pictures of some pages (physical and online) of the Margarita’s menu.

One thing that might have changed since 2015 is the prices. We have not done a detailed comparison of prices but our general impression is that prices have increased somewhat. For example, the price of our favourite item, the chicken fajitas, seems to have increased from $32 to $38. Not too bad considering the inflation we have seen over the past ten years or so.

Mexican Lunch at Margarita’s Dempsey
First to be served at lunch was the nachos ($20). This crispy snack is always a popular item to start a Mexican meal with. Smothered with various sauces and condiments (queso, chipotle, refritos, crema, guacamole and jalapeรฑos), it is as addictive as keropok. A perfect finger food to go with a cold drink on a hot Singapore afternoon.

Next to arrive was a quesadilla dish ($26). These were said to be filled with wild mixed mushrooms, asparagus, feta, serrano crema. I wasn’t able to detect the individual ingredients, but they combined well to make quite a substantial snack.

The last dish to be served was chicken fajitas ($38). This was timed to arrive when we had almost finished the preceding dishes as it is best eaten when hot. The dish has three components – strips of grilled chicken served on a hot pan, a trio of condiments – guacamole, queso, crem and a stack of flour tortillas (kept warm in a bundle under the condiments). We ate it like Peking duck – wrapping chicken inside the tortillas with the type of condiments preferred. This was the best dish of the day. A nice way to end our lunch at this ever popular Mexican restaurant at Dempsey Hill.
