Casa Mori Dempsey – New Restaurant

Casa Mori Dempsey is a new modern fusion restaurant that is said to bring together the culinary perspectives of Singapore and Spain. Recently, we had a weekday lunch at this new Dempsey Hill restaurant.

New Singapore – Spanish Fusion Restaurant at Dempsey

According to its website, Casa Mori is a product of chef Willin Low (of Wild Rocket restaurant) and chef Josรฉ Alonso (of Spanish restaurant Kulto). Together they bring together the culinary perspectives of Singapore and Spain to create dishes rooted in heritage, memory, and modern interpretation. Casa Mori is located between Jumbo Seafood and Harry’s Dempsey.

Restaurant Inspired by Tembusu Trees and Courtyards

The restaurant’s name has two components – Casa, means home in Spanish, and Mori (ๆฃฎ), is apparently the Japanese word for forest. In combination, they are said to represent a home infused with nature. Dempsey restaurants tend to have high ceilings which often are left bare and open (e.g. Culina Bistro). At Casa Mori they have embraced the large volume of the space and the interior design spreads upwards to the top of the ceiling.

The decor is said to be inspired by the communal courtyards of Spanish homes. The “windows’ have mirror inserts making them look realistic while the tall columns represent Tembusu trees which are synonymous with Dempsey. We think the design ideas were well executed. They managed to make such a large voluminous space feel cosy.

Casa Mori Menu

Here is a picture of the Casa Mori food a la carte menu and drinks menu. Dishes such as crabmeat otak terrine, sambal prawn prata pizza and sayur lodeh risotto reveal the Spanish – Singapore heritage of this new restaurant.

Casa Mori Set Lunch Menu

A $35++ set lunch menu was also available. From this menu we selected a roasted cauliflower as the starter and spring chicken as the main course. We did not have any dessert. We also selected a black cod from the a la carte menu.

Roasted Cauliflower and Spring Chicken

These dishes from the set lunch menu looked rather messy. The cauliflower (picture above),which by itself was quite bland, had some miso and hummus to liven it up to some extent. We were more fond of the chicken (picture below) which was cut into strips but not deboned. It had a scallion and ginger relish that was good. The ginger was the dominant flavour, making the seasoning taste like the ground ginger condiment that is served with chicken rice.

Casa Mori Black Cod

A much nicer presentation was given to the black cod dish. The portion size was decent and the chinese olive mustard leaf topping provided the Asian input into this dish. The cod did not have any distinct taste and the topping was the dominant flavour of this dish.
