Shen Feng Seafood Zhi Char : Takeaway Lunch from Kopiwu (咖啡屋) Clementi

Shen Feng Seafood Zhi Char was where we decided to go to get some takeaway lunch. Its convenient location in   a Kopiwu (咖啡屋) coffeeshop at Clementi Ave 1 as well as a high 4.6 Google rating were the top two factors which caught our eye when we scanned Google maps.

Too hot to cook and too hazy and lazy to eat out. And so the compromise was to look for a nice zi char place to tabao some nice and simple food for lunch. There are lots of zi char places that popped up in Google search. We shortlisted a few that we had not tried before. Today we will show you what we bought from Shen Feng Seafood Zhi Char. It has a 4.6/5 rating from 112 reviews, which is quite a good score and one of the best that we found.

The restaurant is located in a Kopiwu coffeeshop at Block 420A Clementi 1. This is in a newer part of Clementi town. The cluster of flats nearby known as Casa Clementi looks quite new. There is a Sheng Siong supermarket next to the coffeeshop so this outing was convenient both as a groceries run and to pick up some lunch.

It was not easy to spot this place from the pathway as it is situated in a deep corner of the Kopiwu coffeeshop. Its signboard is partially obscured by a pillar when seen from afar.

Here are pictures of some portions from the Shen Feng Seafood Zhi Char Menu. On this visit we ordered a pork ribs king, bitter gourd omelette and Sin Chew beehoon (all small portions). They cost $12, $8 and $6 respectively. As we were taking away an additional 30 cents was added for each item.

This is what the takeaway food looks like in the packed boxes. The portion sizes were a bit larger than we expected and the packs felt quite heavy – especially the omelette and the beehoon.

Normally we will eat them straight out of the box but this time we wanted to have a more fancy lunch and served the food on paper plates. They look much better.

The pork ribs were well-cooked with an adequately soft texture. Their seasoning was balanced without being too sweet. We thought the portion size was just right for two persons.

After viewing the Zermatt’s Youtube video about his diet, we had also decided to include bitter gourd in our diet. This bitter gourd omelette from Shen Feng Zhi Char was huge. My guesstimate is that five or six eggs were used in the making of this dish. Strips of bitter gourd were evenly distributed. They had been cooked enough to be soft and lose their bitterness. Seasoning was also good, not too salty but it was a bit oily.

Finally, the simple fried bee hoon completed the meal. We intentionally chose a simple dish as there was enough going on in the other dishes. We were also pleased with the choice of this dish. It was well fried and well seasoned. If there was more wok hei it would be perfect. But still it was above average. Overall, it was a good first experience with this tze char restaurant in Clementi. Ordering by phone was straightforward and the food was ready for pickup when we arrived. This is a place we are likely to make repeat visits to.
