Penang Place @ Suntec City – more than just buffet

Penang Place is well known for its value for money Penang Buffet. It is easy to understand why so many Singaporeans love the place where you pay one price and eat your money’s worth of Char Kway Teow,  Hokkien Mee, Laksa, Chendol and more. Those who prefer to eschew buffets need not avoid Penang @ Suntec City. It has an a la carte menu with a scrumptious collection of Penang food.

Penang @ Suntec City took over the space previously occupied by a Chinese restaurant. The interior design of the front lounge of that Chinese restaurant was quite impressive and Penang Place sensibly chose to leave most of it unchanged. The furniture put in by Penang Place may not quite match the elegance of the interior design but on the whole the ambeince is a still notch above that of a typical affordable all you can eat buffet restaurant.

There are two main sections in the restaurant. The front section is more suitable for those ordering from the a la carte menu. You cannot see the buffet spread and is less likely to regret not going for the buffet. The larger section of the restaurant is where more than 30 Penang dishes are laid out. There are tables close to the food stations for all the buffet lovers.

It seems that most people go to Penang Place @ Suntec City for their Authentic Penang Buffet. It is easy to understand why. It is affordably priced, the food quality is good and there is an excellent spread of Penang food. See our post Buffet at Penang Place (when they were at Fusionpolis).

More than just Penang Buffet

If you don’t have the time to enjoy a leisurely buffet or don’t have the appetite, you can still enjoy one of the many tantalizing Penang dishes at Penang Place. It has recently introduced new one dish meals – Big Prawn Char Kway Teow and Big Prawn Hokkien Mee.

Light Meal at Penang Place

We went to Penang Place @ Suntec City for a light meal recently. We ordered the Penang Fruits Rojak ($8.80), Choon Piah ($5.90) and Prata with Vegetable Curry ($10.90).

The Penang Rojak was refreshing and enjoyable. The mixed fruit salad with shrimp paste was a delectable combination of flavours – sweet, sour and spicy.

We are not sure if Prata with Vegetable Curry is uniquely Penang but the dish at Penang Place was very good. The roti prata was crispy on the outside but soft on the inside and not at all chewy. The piquant curry sauce did not disappoint.

The Choon Piah looked like a very plain spring roll. The deep fried spring roll packed with shredded vegetables and diced shrimps was quite enjoyable, especially with some dipping sauce.

Good for Light Meal or Buffet

Overall we had a simple relishable meal. The a la carte menu prices are obviously not as attractive when compared with the buffet prices but they are reasonable. Whether you want a light meal of delectable Penang dishes or a value for money buffet of more than 30 Penang specialties, expertly prepared by a team of qualified chefs from Penang, we think Penang Place @ Suntec City will be a good option.
