The Royals Cafe in Siglap

The Royals is a popular bakery in the East famous for their cakes and pies. A less known fact about the Royals is that it also has a cafe in Upper East Coast Road and a steakhouse in Jalan Pisang. The Royals Cafe in Siglap offers an interesting menu of Malay and Western dishes – from Mee Siam and Nasi Lemak Burger to Braised Beef Cheek and Spaghetti Carbonara.

The Royals Cafe Menu

The Royals Cafe Menu is not extensive but it offers a good mix of Malay dishes and Western cafe fare. There are specials and set meals on offer from time to time. Below is a photo of the main menu. There is an online menu on the cafe’s website.

Lunch at The Royals Cafe

We were at The Royals Cafe Siglap for lunch and ordered the Signature Nyonya Mee Siam ($5.90) and a Nasi Lemak Burger ($11.90).

The Royals Cafe Mee Siam

The Nyonya Mee Siam with thick creamy and tangy gravy was delicious. This dish is a good enough reason to visit The Royals Cafe.

Royals Cafe Nasi Lemak Burger

Nasi Lemak Burger was a piece of fried chicken between an egg and compressed pandan coconut rice cake. It was nicely presented. All the usual nasi lemak ingredients were there – pickles, peanuts, ikan bilis and sambal chilli. The dish was tasty and enjoyable but we thought that it was not a cheap serving of nasi lemak. Perhaps, it is the price to pay to have a more Instagram-worthy dish.

We also had a piece of carrot cake ($5.80) to go with our coffee ($3.90). The cake was dense but moist and flavourful. A good way to round up a simple lunch.
