New & Improved Marmalade Pantry Ion Orchard with desserts by Genevieve Lee (MasterChef runner-up)

We had brunch recently at the new Marmalade Pantry Ion Orchard. It has moved up one level to level 4 of the Ion Orchard mall where it now has two sections – a regular restaurant space and a dining area in the atrium space. It is a new and improved version of the previous Marmalade Pantry. We were also pleasantly surprised to see the photo of Genevieve Lee (the runner up in MasterChef Singapore competition) on the menu which lists some of her dessert creations.

The regular restaurant space (above picture) is a more private and cosy space. But if people-watching and openness of space is preferred, then the atrium seating area (pictures below) is another option. Compared to their former space on level 3, the new location looks and feels nicer and more posh. The level of service seems have picked up as well.

Marmalade Pantry Ion Orchard Menu

Here are pictures of the Marmalade Pantry Ion Orchard menu. It contains the usual Western all-day dining items like sandwiches, burgers and pasta, with a few Asian items such as Singapore laksa.

Our brunch started off well and on a sweet note with the Marmalade French Toast ($22). Eight thick slices of toast combined so well with the strips of bacon and fruits. The overall portion size was generous but we wished there were more fruits.

The Marmalade Club Sandwich ($24) was also a large dish that could be easily shared by two persons. Toasted wholemeal bread with egg, chicken salad, vegetables etc. The generous amount of sweet potato fries was appreciated by us.

We tried an item from the Asian section – Kimchi Fried Rice ($26). It was served paella-style in a hot metal pan. The topping of kimchi was spicy and provided a nice contrast with the other typical brunch items. The beef and soft egg toppings enhanced the dish further.

Reimagined Kaya Toast

For dessert, we tried the Reimagined Kaya Toast ($14), a creation by Genevieve Lee, and the Smore ($5). The kaya toast looks like a scale model of Stonehenge. It is said to be pistachio sponge, coconut cream, brown toast meringue shards and Cold Stone Creamery®’s gula melaka ice cream. Eaten together, it was a pleasant dessert – especially the incredibly light meringue shards. There was a vague resemblance to kaya toast. It reminded us more of eating ice cream sandwiched between two wafer biscuits.

The Smore was a nicely decorated chocolate cupcake. At $5 each, it is good value for money.
