The low-rise residential area of Tanjong Katong gets another stylish cafe. Located at the junction of Boscombe Road and Tanjong Katong Road is the new Supernova Cafe which offers good coffee and wine, and menus for mornings, afternoons and nighttime.
New Cafe @ Tanjong Katong
There is a growing list of hip cafes along Tanjong Katong Road. Supernova joins 6 Letter Coffee and Little Rogue Coffee along the road with many popular eateries, and Bella People and Coffee has also just opened.
Supernova is another establishment by the group that also operates popular cafes like Atlas Coffeehouse, Columbus Coffee Co. and The Neptune.
Located in an old shophouse with a facade in pastel colours, Supernova cafe has a nice outdoor area with a Parisian sidewalk cafe vibe (if only the Singapore weather is not so hot). The outdoor space is pet-friendly.
The interior has the typical contemporary cafe look but with old school English style interior design elements like chandeliers and a beautiful bar.
Menus of Supernova Cafe
The cafe serves good coffee as well as other beverages including iced tea with milk foam, kombucha and cold pressed juice. Wine and other alcoholic spirits are also available.
Supernova Cafe has a brunch and day menu offering all day brunch fare as well as salads and burgers. The night menu has a small range of dinner dishes, which includes okonomiyaki, stew and pasta. Below are pictures of the Brunch & Afternoon Menu of Supernova.
Lunch @ Supernova
We visited the new cafe at Tanjong Katong recently and ordered Eggs in Meurette ($24) and Bacon & Pumpkin Rigatoni ($21) for lunch. We also had iced long black ($5.80) and flat white ($5.60).
Like in their sister cafes such as Apollo Coffee Bar, the young service crew members of Supernova were welcoming, friendly and efficient; and a bottle of water and cups were brought to the table as soon as we were seated.
The Eggs in Meurette was an interesting dish. It was a piece of fried sourdough bread in a red wine stew of bacon, mushrooms and pickled shallots and topped with two poached eggs.
The traditional French fare was aesthetically pleasing and had aromatic richness and delightful flavours. It was a relishable dish and a nice change from the more usual egg items like eggs benedict.
The pasta dish was tube-shaped rigatoni served with bacon and shimeji mushroom and pumpkin cream sauce. The rigatoni was well cooked and had a nice firm texture. The pumpkin cream had a good consistency and combined well with the smokey bacon and shimeji mushrooms, which had a mild nutty flavour and great crunchy texture. It is a dish that is worth a try.
Coffee & Tart
We also had Supernova’s Chocolate Banana Tart ($8). The tart of crushed biscuit base layered with mashed bananas and delectable chocolate ganache was a treat for the palate.
The coffee at Supernova was, as expected, very good.
Great Cafe, Restaurant & Bar
Supernova is a new bright spot in the Tanjong Katong neighbourhood. It is a great place for coffee, a relaxing cafe for brunch, a nice neighbourhood restaurant for dinner and a swanky bar for drinks at night.
