Perle Noire Restro Bar (PN Resto Bar, formerly Black Pearl Steakhouse) is a new-ish restaurant, described as a “contemporary twist to the classic steak restaurant, featuring French-inspired mains & delectable fusion tapas…:.
Located along Lorong Mambong, Perle Noire Resto Bar (PN Resto Bar) is one of the many food outlets operating in this part of Holland V. Other notable names along the same row are old timers La Nonna Italian restaurant and Cha Cha Cha Mexican restaurant. The OCBC Holland Village branch is a few more doors away. Upon arriving at the premises, we recall that this place used to be occupied by Japanese restaurant, Kanpai Izakaya. But the atmosphere of the restaurant has changed completely. It has a new dark and serious atmosphere, befitting a restaurant formerly named Black Pearl Steakhouse.
PN Resto Bar – Perle Noire – Black Pearl Steakhouse
In 2014 we visited a restaurant named Perle Noire Oyster & Grill Bar in Siglap. We were impressed by the food served. It seemed that the restaurant in Siglap has since been renamed as Black Pearl Steakhouse. Sometime in late 2021, a branch outlet Black Pearl Steakhouse Holland Village opened. Upon checking out the restaurant information we saw a post on the Black Pearl Steakhouse Facebook page stating that they were no longer involved in PN Resto Bar’s operations at Holland V. On PN’s website, we are informed that “PN stands for Perle Noire (French for Black Pearl). We are previously known as Black Pearl Steakhouse”.
PN Resto Bar Menu, Oysters and 20% Discount till Sep 22
Since steak and oysters seem to continue to take centerstage, we highlight below the steak menu and an interesting deal for a free flow of oysters and wine. $58++ for wine and oysters over 1.5 hours sounds like a good deal for those who can handle a meal of raw seafood. Perhaps Zermatt can have a go at this place.
Set Dinner and Lunch Menu
Set lunch and dinner menus are also available at Perle Noire Resto Bar. Here is a picture of the set lunch menu featured on the restaurant website. We tried the set lunch, selecting the soup and escargot for starters and grilled barramundi and ribeye for mains. The price of the Perle Noir Resto Bar set lunch depends on the type of mains selected.
What We Ate At Perle Noir Resto Bar: Bread and Starters
We had a good impression of the PN restaurant when the complimentary bread platter arrived. The slices of bread were warm and toasted. The plate contained a compartment for vinegar/olive oil and another with what looked like seeds and spices. We tried the bread dipped in both and liked the nutty currry-like flavours. The celeriac soup was nice and rich while the escargots were de-shelled and very small. But the escargot gravy was very deliciously oily which we did not waste by dipping more bread (which they kindly replenished) into them.
Main Courses
Our choice of main courses were grilled barramundi with mango salsa ($28.90) and steak frites ($36.90). There are options of various add-ons to the dishes. We decided to add some grilled prawns ($7) to the grilled fish and it was a very good decision. The smell of the prawns arrived before the dish. They were de-shelled but with the heads intact. Both the fish and prawns were nicely cooked, leaving the meat tender and moist. We would have liked the fish more if the skin was crisp. The various sauces and garnishings seem to have soaked through the skin.
By comparison, the steak frites (fries with a small grass-fed ribeye steak) looked rather boring. In terms of taste it was not bad but our memories of the lunch was mostly about the fish and the prawns.
Holland Village is a quiet place on weekday afternoons. We had the Perle Noire Resto Bar almost all to ourselves that day. Service was attentive and courteous. Lunch at the new PN Resto Bar Holland V was a nice way to spend a weekday afternoon.
