Asia Grand Restaurant : New Chinese Restaurant in Fairmont Singapore

Asia Grand Restaurant is an old restaurant in a new location. This Cantonese restaurant in Singapore has a long history. Previously known as Tsui Hang Village, it was located in the now defunct Hotel Asia on Scotts Road. It was rebranded Asia Grand and subsequently moved to Odeon Towers in the 2000s. At the end of 2022, it made a second move to its present location in Fairmont Hotel.

Szechuan Court was the Chinese restaurant that used to occupy this space on level 3 of the hotel. The new Asia Grand restaurant looks quite different from its predecessor. Gone are the screens that divided the dining hall into sections, it is now one large spacious dining space.

But this large restaurant was easily filled up when we were there for lunch on a weekend. It is best to make a reservation before dining here.

Asia Grand Restaurant review

Asia Grand Restaurant Menu

As you can expect, the Asia Grand restaurant a la carte menu is an extensive one. In addition, there is a dim sum menu, menus with the Chef’s Recommendations and a menu for set meals. Here are some pictures of sample portions from the menus.

Asia Grand Special Set Lunch Menu for 3-4 Pax ($198++)

With so many options to choose from, we settled on an easy solution – get the set lunch menu. The six course set lunch menu costs $198++.

Dim Sum and Soup

Asia Grand Restaurant set lunch dim sum

Dim sum is an area which Asia Grand is known for. It was no surprise that the 3 dim sum combination in the set lunch was very good. Siew mai, har kau and fried mango seafood roll were all good. Even better this time as they were very attractively presented on a decorative platter with 2 birds on a tree.

Doubled Boiled Soup of the Day was pork ribs soup. It was nice, with no hint of ‘corkiness’ at all but not as outstanding as the dim sum. The pork pieces were fished out of the pork and were easy to consume as the meat fell off the bones easily.

Kampong Chicken, Fish and French Beans

Next was the Kampong Chicken in Yellow Wine. This was not a very attractive dish but it was the best dish of the day. The meat was succulent and very well marinated. Perfect when eaten with the grated ginger provided.

“Sauted green wrasse fillet with French beans and olive leaf” is the long name of this dish. It was a bit too salty for us, but otherwise very good as well. It is tasty and the sort of dish that will go well with plain Teochew porridge.

Lunch at Asia Grand Restaurant : Noodles and Dessert

The carb dish of the day was braised vermicelli with shredded pork, fungus and black bean sauce. Again, apart from the level of salt, we enjoyed it very much. We should remember to ask for less salt in the dishes on a next visit.

Dessert arrived in the form of red bean cream with lotus seed. This was a simple evergreen dessert which brought our meal to a sweet end. The set meal was adequate for 4 persons.
