Malo Artisan Crêpier Printemps Paris – Breton galettes for lunch

Malo Artisan Crepier Printemps Paris is one of many restaurants, cafes and other food places at the beautiful Paris department store. After browsing some of the options available, we landed at this casual creperie on the 7th floor of Printemps de l’Homme where tasty Breton galettes and gourmet crêpes were on the menu.

What to Eat at Printemps Haussmann

Printemps Haussmann is the first Printemps store. Now commonly known as “Printemps Haussmann”, it opened on 3 November 1865 under the name “Grands Magasins du Printemps” (Wikipedia). It is located in a major shopping zone along Boulevard Haussmann along with other famous stores, including the glamorous Galeries Lafayette main store. Some of our readers may remember that these two French department stores opened up branches in Singapore in the 1980s, but did not stay very long.

Printemps Hausmann is spread over two buildings, connected by a bridge. There are many restaurants distributed across the two buildings, with a concentration of eateries on the 7th and 8th floors of the building that houses the men’s wear (Printemps de l’Homme). This is the place to go when hungry in Printemps. In addition to the varieties of food in close proximity, some of the restaurants here have outdoor terraces that look out over central Paris with a view of the Eiffel Tower. We have provided a link to a directory of restaurants at Printemps Hausmann at the end of this post.

We chose to eat at this creperie because of its bright, casual decor and also because we had already been in Paris for quite a while and still not tried the famous galettes and crêpes from Brittany. It is located in front of the bookshop on level 7 of Printemps de l’Homme.

Apple Cider and Crepes

Apparently, Breton galette and crepes are commonly paired with apple cider. Since we were in France, we did what the French do. A small bottle of cider shared by two was a nice way to eat the galettes that we ordered (although I suspect that any white wine would also work quite well).

Breton Galettes at Printemps Paris

Breton galettes are savoury crepes made with buckwheat. This type of flour gives it texture and flavour. I cannot remember exactly which were the two types that we tried. I think they were the “Complète” (10 €) which had egg, ham, mushroom and cheese, and the chicken, avocado, cheese and egg (14 €). Both were very good.

The taste of the flour and chewy texture provided the foundation of enjoyment. Add an egg, some cheese and the other toppings and it was a simple and flavourful dish that will not break the bank. This will surely be a spot which we will stop by for lunch or a snack whenever we go shopping at Printemps or Galeries Lafayette on future visits.
