Summer Hill Restaurant at Claymore Connect

Summer Hill Restaurant at Claymore Connect is a big leap forward from its previous location at Sunset Way. The new location at Orchard Road is significantly larger and more attractive than the earlier one. But most importantly, is the food still yummy? The answer is yes!

French Restaurant at Orchard

The original Summer Hill Bistro at Sunset Way was located in a cluster of shops along Sunset Way near the junction with Clementi Road. Among its neighbours were other restaurants, sundry shops and clinics. You can see photos of it in our post on our visit in 2018. It is now 2025 and the place is Orchard Road. More specifically, in Claymore Connect, the shopping mall linked to Orchard Hotel. It seems that the little girl is now a fine young lady.

In keeping with the better address, the interior decoration has also improved a few notches. Summer Hill Restaurant at Claymore Connect has traditional French restaurant vibes. The warm glow of the lights enhanced the atmosphere for a quiet dinner on a weekday evening.

Summer Hill Brunch Trolley

We had heard about the Summer Hill Brunch Trolley which is apparently very popular. It is served on Fridays at 12pm and on Saturdays & Sundays at 11am-1pm & 1.30-3.30pm. This is a buffet lunch with French food served on trolleys (dim sum style). You can see the June brunch trolly menu here. It costs $79++ per person with optional $55++ for free flow wines. During these lunch periods the regular a la carte menu is apparently not available.

Dinner at Claymore Connect

We were there for dinner and only had access to the a la carte menu. These were the items that we tried.

We had a few side dishes and starters. Duck fat fries ($10), Brussels sprouts ($14) and Smoked Salmon Rillettes ($18) were all enjoyable. But the salmon rillette (picture below), made with Creme Fraiche, dill, fried capers, received the most praise for its wonderful blend of flavours.

Our main courses were generally not bad but less interesting than the starters.

Best main course was the Pan Seared Halibut (picture above, $42) which was a good piece of fish, cooked very nicely and served in a classy sauce. This would not look out of place in a fine dining French restaurant. Our next favourite was the Steak Onglet (picture below, $49). The 150-day grain-fed aged Australian Angus beef, was good and met expectations, but had no wow factor.

Receiving less accolades among our group was the Wagyu Beef Bourguignon ($48). Described as “Mayura Briskey MBS 8/9, braised in red wine“, I think it’s a type of Australian beef brisket. Under the meat were some buttered noodles.

Dinner at Summer Hill Restaurant Orchard

Our desserts were banana bread (picture above) and apple tart. Both were enjoyable desserts but the banana bread won the value for money prize as this slice of bread was large enough to be shared by two or three diners.

BYOB Restaurant – No Corkage on Tuesday and Wednesday

We were happy to discover that Summer Hill Claymore Connect does not charge corkage on Tuesdays and Wednesdays (unless they fall on or the eve of public holidays). The only condition on the BYOB is the limit of 4 bottles a table. That sounds very reasonable to us. Cheers!
