New Bahru Factory Block Food and Retail Shops

New Bahru Factory Block food outlets and fashionable retail shops have opened, bringing new exciting places to visit in a once quiet part of the New Bahru mall in River Valley Singapore. Until recently most of the other restaurants and shops were concentrated in the School Block in the other parts of the mall.

Directory of New Bahru Factory and School Blocks

Here is a picture of the New Bahru Mall directory. There are essentially two blocks known as the School Block and Factory Block which are joined by a linkway. Most of the New Bahru restaurants that we have written about so far such as Somma restaurant, Coconut Club, Le Clos, One Prawn & Co and Huevos are located in the School Block.

Some of the shops listed in the “School” part of the mall (e.g. PPP Coffee) are situated along the linkway. Factory block had not been interesting to us until the recent opening of the new New Bahru Factory Block food and retail outlets on levels one and two. Level 4 is occupied by Kiztopia Prestige which “provides premium experiences tailored for toddlers and preschoolers” i.e. indoor playground and development classes. The Orange Tree Preschool is situated on Level 3.

New Bahru Factory Block L2 Food Outlets

The largest restaurant at Factory Level 2 is conveyor belt sushi restaurant Sushiro. The other food outlets are arranged in an open concept like a communal food court. Here are pictures taken at a quick walk about of the food outlet at Factory Block L2.

Orh Gao Peh Gao

The first stall we see upon entering level 2 is a large bar counter which is operated by Orh Gao Peh Gao. According to its website, It is a “taproom coffeeshop” that serves kopi, kaya toast and Asian comfort food by day when it is the Peh Gao (white dog). At night the Orh Gao (black dog) serves craft beers and bar food. It also has an outlet at Serene Centre near the Singapore Botanic Gardens.

New Bahru Factory Block Sushiro

Sushiro needs no introduction. We think this New Bahru Sushiro outlet looks very nice and cosy in this enclosed space,

Kios Minang New Bahru

Kios Minang by Rumah Makan Minang has been serving Indonesian style Nasi Padang in Singapore since 1954. They also have outlets at Kandahar Street and Tampines Hub.

Laifaba

Laifaba is known for traditional wood-fired roasts at their Bukit Batok Crescent restaurant. The new outlet at New Bahru Factory block allows Laifaba to introduce a modern wood-fired roast kiosk concept.

Kulon Bakmi New Bahru Factory Block Food

Indonesian dishes by Kulon are served at their kiosk Kulon Bakmi at New Bahru.Their signature bakmi (an Indonesia dry noodle dish) and small plates are available “… in a vibrant, communal setting that celebrates the energy of Indonesian street-side dining, reimagined for a creative crowd.” Kulon also has a restaurant at Kampong Glam.

Chen Fa Fish Soup New Bahru

At the time of our visit the Chen Fa Fish Soup New Bahru stall was already set up but they were not yet open for business.

New Bahru Factory Block L1 Food and Retail Outlets

On level one, the New Bahru Factory Block houses mostly retail outlets but the two food outlets are very attractive.

Parlour at New Bahru

This ice-cream parlour at New Bahru was so attractive that we had to buy something from there.

The pistachio ice cream was very good but quite pricey – $8.80 for a single scoop.
