Forgotten Recipe – restaurant in Tiong Bahru featuring Eurasian food (Closed)

Forgotten Recipe is a restaurant in the Cape Inn on Seng Poh Road. The place looks more like a drinking spot rather than a restaurant. The name on the circular sign “Forgotten Recipe” was ambiguous. It was the stand-mounted notices advertising the Eurasian food buffet for $28 that sheds light on the existence of this Eurasian restaurant.

The Forgotten Recipe restaurant space probably livens up at night as a sports bar or simply a hang out place for drinks. There was no shortage of alcoholic beverages on display at the bar. The interior of the space was dark. The outdoor area looked more like a restaurant area, where a row of small tables stand out in the sunlight.

On closer examination, Forgotten Recipe is an interesting space. Other than its drinking hole purposes which are quite obvious, it also serves as a workspace for road warriors. Take a spot at the place and get lunch, wifi and fresh flow of coffee for $28. There is an Eurasian buffet on weekends. On weekdays (Tuesday to Fridays) there is a $10 two course set lunch.

Here are pictures of the lunch menu and a page from the ala carte menu. The wine prices also seem quite reasonable. We decided to try their $10 set lunch.

Here are pictures of the two starters that we selected – chicken satay and prawn tostados. The three sticks of satay were well made and juicy. Although slightly more charred than we would have liked, they were better than we had expected in a $10 set lunch.

We were not sure what exactly were prawn tostados. It seemed like pieces of toast with prawn and egg (?). A bit plain but not bad in taste. We can imagine both these starters can be nice finger foods to go with drinks at happy hour at Forgotten Recipe.

For the main courses, we selected sambal pork and the curry ambila kacang. Both came with polenta balls and rice. Both these meat dishes with gravy / curry were good.  Considering the price of the lunch, this was a good value for money lunch.
