So France Bistro and Epicerie - a preview

So France is one of the more exciting new eateries to open at the Duo Galleria. So when we read from the website that they opened on 22 March 2018, we were there soon after. But we jumped the gun. They were technically correct as they did open for business but only the cafe for drinks and snacks as well as retail sales at the epicerie. We were told that real food is only served when the bistro opens today (26 March 2018). Our short visit was not entirely in vain as we did stop by for coffee and snacks and had a look around. We liked what we saw and will certainly be back. So just treat this as a preview until we do a real review.

According to Wiktionary, an épicerie is a grocery store (shop or store that sells groceries), more precisely a specialty food shop. The So France épicerie retails 100% French products – ranging from wines, cheeses, olive oil, cakes etc. We ended up buying some cakes from there.

The So France Bistro is the most beautiful part of the complex. We did not get to dine there, but here are some pictures of the space and the tapas and dinner menus.

This was the only section that was in operation – the cashier for the store and the cafe that sells drinks and light snacks.

We tried some coffee, a chocolate croissant ($2.90) and a slice of Basque cake ($6.50). The coffees ($4 for cappuccino and $3 for black) did not have any fancy coffee art decoration but the taste was rich and thick. At these prices we would go there for coffee everyday if we are one of those fortunate enough to live or work at Duo Galleria or Duo Tower. The pastries similarly did not score highly on the looks department but the taste was good.

Overall, shopping and eating at So France Duo Galleria was an enjoyable experience. The people running the place seem nice and we may even pick up some French if we go there frequently enough!
