Kai Garden Set Lunch

Kai Garden Restaurant (嘉苑) in Marina Square is a contemporary Cantonese restaurant well known for its Peking duck. Their dim sum is also popular and they offer various set menus. We had their set lunch recently and were happy with the delicious offering.

Kai Garden in Marina Square

We visited Kai Garden when it was just opened (see Kai Garden – New Cantonese Restaurant @ Marina Square) and were quite impressed by their interior decor and food. Their duck must have become very popular as they opened a new casual dining restaurant at Takashimaya Shopping Centre in Ngee Ann City Singapore named Kai Duck (see The New Kai Duck Restaurant in Takashimaya S.C., Ngee Ann City).

Kai Garden Restaurant (嘉苑)

It has been opened for more than 5 years but the restaurant does not show its age. In fact it looks neater with the tables more well laid out. The main dining hall still gives guests a good view of the Marina Bay skyline.

Kai Garden Menu

The menu of Kai Garden is quite comprehensive and offers most of the dishes you would expect to find in a Cantonese restaurant. Below are a few random pages from the main menu.

There is also a separate menu for their signature appetizers and dim sum.

In addition, there are various set menus.

Lunch at Kai Garden

It had been awhile since we had a sit down meal in a restaurant. It was nice to have proper tableware and to be served appetizers and tea by polite and attentive staff.

Kai Garden Set Lunch

We ordered the Executive Set Lunch A ($58++ per person).

Our Kai Garden Set Lunch started very well with a trio of appetizers – honey BBQ pork, prawn roll and Peking duck.

The prawn roll was average. The char siew or BBQ pork was good, tender and delicious. The Peking duck was excellent – the skin was crisp and really delectable.

A bowl of traditional double boiled soup was served next. The soup looked nutritious and had delicate flavours.

The main dish of our Kai Garden Set Lunch was baked cod fillet and golden enoki wrapped in kurobuta pork. The pork was not bad but the taste and texture of enoki mushroom dominated. The cod had a nice tender texture and natural sweetness. It was doused with teriyaki sauce but the sauce was not overpowering.

The carbohydrate of the meal was a luxurious pan seared glutinous rice with egg and truffle. It was an unusual dish and we really enjoyed it. The egg provided a light crispy crust and the rice was soft and moist. It was a delicious dish.

The set lunch was rounded off with chilled fresh coconut puree. It was refreshing and very palatable.

Delectable Quality Food

We liked all the items on the Kai Garden Set Lunch menu but especially the Peking duck, the glutinous rice and coconut puree. The lunch at $58++ per person was not cheap but we felt it was fair value. We had delectable quality food and we enjoyed the meal.
