Blanco Court Beef Noodles – available in convenient locations

Blanco Court Beef Noodles 百兰阁牛肉粉 started business in 1979 in Blanco Court, which was demolished to make way for the Raffles Hospital in the late nineties. The traditional Hainanese style beef noodles store has relocated a number of times but now has outlets in various locations, including stalls in Aperia Mall, Parkway Parade, Westgate and Wisma Atria.

We ordered beef ball noodles, beef slice noodles and mushroom chicken rice ($6.90 each) rice for takeaway. They were nicely packed with broth in a separate container.

Beef Noodles

The Blanco Court version of Hainanese beef noodles still follows the traditional recipe that the original Blanco Court stall vendor picked up when she worked as a helper at a roadside stall during the 1960s. Their style of beef noodles is distinguished by the use of ingredients such as peanuts, salted vegetables, springs onions and chinchalok and some secret spices in the soup.

The herbal soup stock was rich and flavourful; and the thick gravy that came with the dry version was the same. The beef slices were tender and the beef balls had a nice springy bite. Both the soup and dry versions of Blanco Court traditional Hainanese beef noodles were delicious and satisfying.

Mushroom Chicken Rice

The mushroom chicken rice came with button mushrooms and 4 pieces of soy suace braised chicken wings. The chicken was tender and tasty. The rice dish was not as good as the beef noodles but was still a very nice and enjoyable dish.

It is good that Blanco Court Beef Noodles using traditional recipe is keeping the heritage Hainanese dish alive; and making it more accessible with stalls with comfortable seating in accessible locations.
