PPP Coffee – Filter Coffee Break With Snacks

PPP Coffee is a cafe which ranks high as a place for good coffee place in the Singapore CBD. This was the place we recently went to for single origin filter coffee and snacks.

PPP Coffee was known as Papa Palheta before they rebranded themselves as PPP Coffee and set up the cafe at Funan Mall in 2019. They source, roast and serve specialty coffee in Singapore and Malaysia. They are also the folks behind Chye Seng Huat Hardware coffee bar in Lavender, Singapore. That cafe has an almost cult-like status among coffee drinkers in Singapore.

PPP Coffee has a different ambience compared to the Chye Seng Huat Hardware cafe. The PPP Cafe is modern and futuristic. The coffee station in particular is most impressive. Bright lights and big shiny coffee makers make me wonder what it is like to operate these machines.

PPP Coffee Menu

The food menu at PPP Coffee is quite limited. But compared to specialist coffee places like Glyph and Kurasu which has only a couple of food items to munch with the coffee, this was quite adequate.

In addition to the the food items on the menu, a decent selection of cakes and pastries are available at the display counter.

The Coffee Menu

Here is a picture of the drinks menu at PPP Coffee. Espress and filter coffee, cold brews, teas and sodas are available. A separate list of single origin beans for filter coffee is available. We decided to try the Muchagara Kenya and Suke Quto Ethiopia filter coffee ($8 each) and a cup of cappuccino ($6.80).

PPP Coffee and Snacks

The filtered coffees were nicely presented in a small carafe with a Japanese-style cup. Nectarine, blackcurrant and dried figs were the flavours described for the Muchagara Kenya coffee. Other than a mild fruity taste, we were unable to detect all these flavours. Coupled with the light coffee flavour, it is quite a nice coffee for those who wish to move away from strong espresso coffee.

Our other filter coffee, made with Suke Auto beans, was a stronger coffee. It is described as having flavours of peach, Earl Grey tea, and citrus finish. It did remind us of tea but there was not much fruitiness. My filter coffee companions preferred the other filter coffee.

Although I experimented with some filter coffees at PPP Coffee, I also had to have the espresso coffee made with the super coffee machines. The cappuccino was most enjoyable. The snacks that we had with our coffees were a chocolate croissant ($5) and a slice of matcha lemon pound cake ($8). Both good snacks to eat with coffee but not exceptional.
