Ah Huat Wanton Noodle at Dunman Food Centre

Ah Huat Wanton Noodle or more fully known as Joo Chiat Ah Huat Wanton Noodle is one of the most popular stalls at Dunman Food Centre. This is a small food centre at Onan Road which has less than 30 stalls.

A Repeat Visit After 5 Years

Taking up a space which is double the size of a regular stall at a typical market food centre, the Joo Chiat Wanton Noodle’s presence dominates level one of Dunman Food Centre. Do not confuse them with another wanton noodle stall – Dunman Road Char Siew Wanton Mee which is also a popular stall and is located on the higher level, level 2.

It has been a while since we last visited Ah Huat Wanton Noodle. With so many food options in this part of Singapore, it sometimes takes many years before we make a full circle to make a repeat visit. Our last visit was in 2019 – see Joo Chiat Ah Huat Wanton Mee – cheap & good food in Dunman – The Ordinary Patrons. We are always glad to see old friends. Ditto when it comes to good food places. First impressions were positive, the Dunman Food Centre and the wanton noodle stall looked the same and we felt comfortable in a familiar place.

Ah Huat Wanton Noodle Prices

Not unexpectedly, prices of Ah Huat Wanton Noodles have increased from $3.50 to $4. As we have said in an earlier post on price increases – not good but not bad, considering how costs have increased over the period from 2019 to 2024. More importantly, how was the taste after all these years. Here are pictures of the Ah Huat Wanton Noodle prices and opening times.

Classic Singapore Wanton Noodles at Dunman Food Centre

In our previous visit, we noted that Ah Huat wanton noodles looked darker than those of other stalls, probably because of the soy sauce used. We were glad to see the same familiar look of these noodles. It is remarkable that they have maintained the same consistency in the noodles over the years. They were cooked just right with a balance of firmness and springiness. Likewise, the wantons with meat filling still had smooth slippery skins and looked almost the same.

There was no single factor that we can point to that is particularly outstanding. Rather, a comforting sameness that makes simple comfort food so addictive.
