With the benefit of hindsight, our visit to Tenjin Shaw Centre last month was premature. If we had waited till July 2024, we would not only have the chance to view the new premises at level 1 of Shaw Centre, we can avail ourselves of the Re-Opening Special of 1-For-1 tempura sets offered from now till 31 July 2024.
Tenjin Shaw Centre Re-Opening Special 1-For-1 Tempura Set
Here are some information available on the Tenjin Facebook page at the time of writing of this post. When we visited the ‘old’ Tenjin, it was on the third floor (unit 03-08). The new address is now on level one (unit 01-11 Shaw Centre). As in most special deals, it has this qualification – “terms and conditions apply”. What these are, I do not know (other than the deadline of 31 July 2024), but the attractiveness of an 1-for-1 offer is hard to resist.
Tempura Donburi Lunch at The ‘Old’ Tenjin
Tenjin is a restaurant in the Les Amis Group. It is described as a smart-casual Japanese restaurant serving up satisfying tempura donburi, rice bowls topped with tempura, sometimes also known as tendon. There are currently two Tenjin branches in Singapore in Raffles City and Shaw Centre. The last time we visited Tenjin Shaw was about five years ago, when it first opened. We did not expect our last visit would coincide with its transfer to the new location. This is a picture of the ‘old’ Tenjin.
Tenjin Tendon Menu
Pictures of the menu of the new Tenjin Shaw Centre is available online. But I think for old times sake, I will still leave these “old’ menus here. It appears from a quick comparison that prices have changed slightly.
Tempura Set Lunch at ‘old’ Tenjin Shaw
The two tendon set meals that we tried prior to the move to the new location were the inaniwa udon set ($27.80) and the prawn tendon set ($19.80).
The inaniwa udon set was an assortment of tempura items served with salad and thin inaniwa udon. This was like a top hits compilation of tempura seafood and vegetables. It was a substantial portion of food. Good value for money for those with a large appetite.
The prawn tendon set was more straight forward, Five tempura prawns topping out of a bowl of Japanese rice, served with salad and soup. Another good value for money tendon dish. Which explains why we often see a queue at Tenjin Shaw Centre at lunch time, which may in turn explain Tenjin’s move to the larger premises on the ground floor in July 2024.
