News: A Taste of Jeju brings tangerines, seafood and K-pop to United Square pop-up

Jeju’s Trade Office in Singapore will host A Taste of Jeju – 2025 Invitation to Jeju, Korea, a week-long showcase of premium products from the island, at United Square from 3 to 9 November 2025.

Now in its second year, the annual event is organised by theJeju Business Agency (JBA) to introduce Singapore consumers and businesses to the rich diversity of Jeju’s offerings, from food and beverages to beauty and lifestyle products. The initiative aims to enhance awareness of Jeju’s distinctive products and strengthen business and cultural ties between Jeju, South Korea’s largest island, and Singapore.

More than 70 products will be available for purchase or sampling in this year’s Invitation to Jeju, Korea.

Fresh Jeju tangerines will be distributed free to visitors. The Korea Citrus Export Corporation is providing the fruit.

Silver belt fish caught using traditional Joo-nak methods will be sold frozen. This fishing technique minimises damage to fish and marine environments.

Conch harvested by Jeju’s haenyeo will also feature. These women free-divers practise a centuries-old profession recognised by UNESCO.

What is on sale

The pop-up includes ready-to-eat seafood products. Jeju flounder fishcakes with crab cost $7.60 for 250g. Braised cutlassfish in spicy sauce is priced at $14.50 for 400g.

Snack options include Hallabong chocolate shaped like Jeju’s stone statues at $4.60. Green mandarin pies retail at $6.30 for 273g.

Jeju Clean Industry is bringing sherbet jelly made from damaged tangerines that would otherwise be discarded. The product contains Jeju agar and fish collagen peptide.

Korean rice wine called Nimome is made with Jeju tangerine peels. It has 11 per cent alcohol content and costs $12.30 per 375ml bottle.

Skincare products include sunscreen made from white lotus grown in Jeju’s volcanic soil. The reef-friendly formula is SPF 60+ and packaged in paper tubes.

Pet care items use Jeju volcanic lava water instead of purified water. A waterless pet shampoo spray is priced at $16.10.

Product sampling

Several items are available for tasting only. Marinated abalone developed with Jeju’s Maritime and Fisheries Research Institute will be served.

Flourless fishcakes made with fresh flounder can be sampled. The steamed cakes contain no added sugar.

Samdasoo bottled water

Samdasoo bottled water will also be available for tasting. The volcanic spring water is filtered through Jeju’s rock layers for approximately 18 years.

    

Opening ceremony details

The official opening takes place on 4 November at 4 pm. Jeju’s Vice-Governor Jin Myong Kee will attend.

K-pop dance group Jejusteez will perform covers from Netflix’s “Demon Hunters”. The troupe won first place at the Jeju Asia Pacific International Dance Competition.

Visitors can participate in a dance workshop. Photo opportunities include a “When Life Gives You Tangerines” wall and traditional Korean hats.

Shoppers spending $50 or more can redeem Jeju flounder fishcake worth $7.60. This offer is limited to the first 20 customers daily.

All purchases qualify for a spin-the-wheel game with Jeju souvenirs as prizes. No minimum spending required.

Additional events

2025 Invitation to Jeju

Three other events will run alongside the pop-up store. A grand opening dinner takes place on 4 November at Park Royal Beach Road.

A business matching event is scheduled for 5 November at Oasia Hotel Novena. This session connects Singapore companies with Jeju businesses.

Start-up Day runs on 5 and 6 November at AWS Asia Pacific Hub. The programme facilitates cross-border opportunities for entrepreneurs.

Participating companies

More than 20 Jeju companies are showcasing products at the pop-up store.

Hallim Fisheries Cooperative was established in 1977. It oversees 18 coastal fishing villages. The cooperative supplies silver belt fish caught by traditional methods.

Daeyang Corporation specialises in abalone products. Its range includes ginseng-abalone preserves, dried abalone and abalone extract tablets. The company also sells dried sea cucumber and seaweed pills.

Jeju Suhyup Trading Company was founded in 1995 by fish farmers. It manages olive flounder using scientific farming methods. Safety tests are conducted before shipping.

Fissueh Company developed from research at Jeju National University. Its Purung Badang fishcakes are steamed rather than fried. The products contain no flour.

Korea Citrus Export Corporation grows tangerines with 12 Brix sweetness. The fruit has thin, smooth peels that are easy to remove.

Jeju Citrus Meister has over 20 years’ experience with pesticide-free mandarins. The brand “A Delicious Philosopher” produces green tangerine extract and chips. It operates an experiential learning farm for children.

Jeju Farm21 makes natural fruit snacks under the Frunack brand. Its drying method preserves over 90 per cent of nutrients. The company exports to eight countries including China and Japan. It ranks first in China’s premium chocolate category online.

Freshis Jeju has over 150 product items since 2014. It trades in processed foods and fresh produce. The company makes Tamna Harubang Hallabong Chocolate.

Hahyo Salon Cooperative is run by Hahyo Village Women’s Association members. The social enterprise makes traditional Korean cookies with Jeju tangerines. It has HACCP and ISO22000 certification.

Jejumami Company was established in May 2017. Women who relocated from Seoul to Jeju founded the firm. It makes snacks from black barley and wild rice. The company employs people with disabilities and women facing career interruption.

Mr Milk produces dairy items from organic Jeju farm milk. Cows graze freely year-round on clean ranches. Products are made in limited batches.

Plus Jeju creates foods using island ingredients. Its range includes green mandarin pies and peanut sandwiches made with Udo peanuts.

Jejusaem Agricultural Association makes traditional Korean spirits. It uses volcanic bedrock water and local produce. The company won three grand prizes at Korea Liquors Contest between 2011 and 2015. It also received gold awards at Monde Selection Belgium.

Dubler Company develops healthy food using Jeju fruits. The firm creates jobs for people with disabilities. It produces Hallabong stick citrus drink mix.

Shinhan Eco Company was established in 2006. It researches red sea cucumber ingredients. The Jeju Welling brand produces braised cutlassfish and sea urchin abalone soup.
