Guess who we ran into on our way to the Arkadas Cafe Fusionopolis? What was Yoda doing in the middle of a garden in the centre of a building in One North, Buona Vista? And then it dawned on us – Sandcrawler! That explains the name of the building that is so different from the rest of the names of the buildings (such as Connexis, Galaxis, Genexis) in Fusionopolis. We were in the building that houses the Lucasfilm production units. The Sandcrawler is a beautiful building with a tropical oasis on the ground floor, where Arkadas Cafe is located. Like the machine in the Star Wars film, the Sandwalker building is also designed like a fortress. It was not easy to find the way in. Only one small entrance on one side of the building provides access. Until we found it, we were wondering though the lush vegetation and bumping into Yoda the statute.
The entrance to Arkadas Cafe is next to the building entrance. Turkish restaurants are not common in Singapore and we were surprised to read about one in this part of Fusionopolis and had set out to find it.
Like a Tardis, the inside of Arkadas Cafe is much larger than it appears outside. In fact it has a high ceiling space and is surrounded by the forest that we had wandered aimlessly about moments earlier. It is hidden under a waterfall which cascades down one side of the restaurant. With such a nice surrounding we thought that the potential of this unique space was perhaps under-utilised as the plain cafeteria-like setting did not do justice to the wonder of this building.
Here are pictures of the Arkadas Cafe menu. We ordered a Yarprak Sarma ($8.90), a Musakka ($12.90) and a Doner Kebab Roll set lunch ($12).
The Yarprak Sarma was an appetizer that is similar to the Greek dish, dolmades. Flavoured rice rolled up with vine leaves. Slightly sour, it is a good appetizer to get the meal going.
The musakka was the Turkish version of Greek moussaka. Similar to lasagna, this dish was made with minced beef. Overall taste was good. The portion was big, even without considering the bowl of rice provided. This could feed two people with small appetites.
The doner kebab roll set lunch started with a tomato soup.
The doner kebab was quite a bland dish compared to the earlier dishes. The slices of doner kebab were rather thin and were lost among the wrap and the vegetables. This is probably a healthy dish – low-fat and low calories, but also low in terms of taste.
Overall, finding Turkish food by Arkadas Cafe added to the surprisingly diverse food outlets that we are only starting to unearth in Fusionopolis.

They have some really good dishes. I’d next time go for the adana kebap (spicy meat skewer) and the coban salatasi (feta, cucumber, tomato, parsley, olive oil salad). The hummus is also quite good, as are all the breads.
The Alnazik (M15), the chicken and salmon dishes are good too. The desserts were surprisingly good too.
