Café Wabi Sabi, a Japanese-inspired café that opened in Everton Park last year, has launched a new outlet in Joo Chiat. The addition of Café Wabi Sabi Joo Chiat brings yet another stylish eatery to the vibrant neighbourhood, offering patrons even more dining options with a varied selection of Japanese comfort food.
Stylish Cafe in Joo Chiat
The new Café Wabi Sabi occupies the ground floor of a charming old corner shophouse at the junction of Joo Chiat Road and Koon Seng Road, which was previously home to Café Natsu.
The interior design of the new café is sleek and contemporary, featuring white and grey tones and pale wood accents. The seating arrangements offer a variety of options, including bar seats by the window and communal tables.
There is also outdoor seating in the corridor, with a relaxed and inviting atmosphere.

Sando & Donburi
During our visit to the new café for lunch on a weekday, we decided to try the Teriyaki Chicken Donburi ($17.90) and the Pork Katsu Sando ($20.90). Alongside these, we ordered a white coffee ($6) and a honey osmanthus tea ($4.90). The food and drinks arrived within the usual waiting time of about 10 to 15 minutes.
The Teriyaki Chicken Donburi was a bowl of rice topped with chicken, mushrooms, cucumber, pickles, tobiko and onsen egg. It was served with a cup comforting miso soup. The pieces of tender chicken were coated with a glossy teriyaki suace that had a nice mix of sweet and salty. The onsen egg, when broken, added a delightful runny texture to the bowl. Crisp slices of cucumber, tobiko and pickles added pops of flavours and contrasting textures to the dish. It was a satisfying meal in one bowl.
The Pork Katsu Sando was a delicious treat. It was a soft white bread sandwich filled with a juicy, golden-brown pork cutlet. Fresh lettuce, tomato, and egg added colours and textures. The rich sesame goma sauce and sweet tonkatsu sauce made every bite tasty. The side of fries was also good.
Accompanying our meal were a white coffee, expertly brewed with beautiful latte art, and a Honey Osmanthus Tea – a fragrant, slightly sweet beverage that was both refreshing and delightful.
Good Food in Pleasant Space
Overall, Café Wabi Sabi Joo Chiat is a great place to enjoy a good meal. While we think the prices might be a bit high, the café’s pleasant atmosphere, interesting menu, and tasty food and drinks make it worth a visit if you’re looking for a coffee break or a simple meal in the neighbourhood.
