Hakata Tempura Takao Parco Shibuya – Affordable Tempura in Tokyo

Hakata Tempura Takao Parco Shibuya is part of a chain of tempura restaurants based in Fukuoka. They have expanded into different parts of Japan including a handful of which are in Tokyo city. It is an affordable tempura restaurant in the heart of Shibuya with a Google Review score of 4.2/5. We went there for lunch during our recent Tokyo trip.

Affordable Tempura Restaurant in Tokyo

There are quite a few affordable tempura places in Tokyo but not many are tempura counters with freshly cooked items served hot from the wok. We often associate tempura counters with more expensive tempura because of the exclusivity of having a ‘personal’ tempura chef serving the diners direct.

Hakata Tempura Takao Parco Shibuya is located on the 7th floor, the dining zone of the Parco department store in Shibuya. I think Hakata Tempura Takao has managed to keep prices affordable by increasing the diners to chef ratio and having very efficient staff. Here, the two chefs on the elevated tempura cooking area managed to service around ten diners seated at the long counter. We did not have to wait long for any of the items we ordered.

Diners can choose from set tempura meals that range from 1,500 yen to 3,500 yen or choose from the a la carte menu. Here are pictures of both menus. We decided to try a mix of both by ordering one of the sets and an assortment of tempura from the a la carte menu.

Tempura Lunch at Parco Shibuya

Here are pictures of some of the items we tried at Hakata Tempura Takao Parco. I cannot remember exactly what we ordered. With a la carte prices such as 280 yen for a standard prawn, 480 yen for a large prawn and 140 yen for vegetable items, we could order freely. The quality of the ingredients was top notch for a family restaurant in Tokyo. Of course the quality of ingredients was not as high as in gourmet tempura restaurants such as Tatsumi but not too far off.

Total bill for our tempura lunch for two persons came up to 4,550 yen (inclusive of taxes, service and one beer). Service was friendly and efficient. This is a place we are likely to visit again on a future visit to Tokyo.
