One more new Bukit Timah Road cafe has opened – Pocket By Flip Coffee Roasters. This hot new cafe has a Google review of 4.8 stars. For us, any Singapore cafe with a Google rating of 4.5 rating is highly impressive. There is a total review number of 40, which is quite realistic for a new place. And so we had to stop by to check it out.
New Bukit Timah Cafe
Pocket By Flip Coffee Roasters is along the row of small shops along the Bukit Timah Road, just after Coronation Plaza. French cafe, Choupinette, is along this row. Roadside parking is conveniently available right in front, provided you are fortunate enough to be at the right place at the right time as there are only a few available. Otherwise, alternative parking is a short walk away in the nearby residential area.
The decor of the cafe is attractive but predictable. A long service counter together with a large espresso machine takes pride of place near the entrance. There are small tables for single or duo diners along the wall.
A large communal dining table is available at the deep end of the restaurant. From here, one can have a view of the coffee roasting facilities at the back.

The Pocket By Flip Coffee Roasters menu is short and focused. A limited list of coffee and drinks. The food choices are mainly toasties and a waffle. Some cookies are available. Coffee beans are also available.
Flip Coffee Roasters Coffee
According to their website, Flip Coffee Roasters Coffee is a specialty focused micro-roastery established in 2021. They are said to be are passionate about “…crafting exceptional coffee experiences for coffee enthusiasts and those eager to dip their toes into a fresh brew”. We tried a white and a black coffee that day. The coffee beans used were La Montana and Amederaro Konga, We found them both to be more fruity than the normal hip cafe style. This was quite a distinctive style of coffee which we like.
Pocket By Flip Coffee Toasties
The rave reviews of Pocket By Flip Coffee Roasters seem to be as much for their coffee as well as for their toasties. We tried the Tomato Basil Cheese Toastie ($15) and the Breakfast Toast ($18).
The Breakfast Toastie was the more substantial one with homemade Italian sausage and scrabbled eggs in the toastie. It was a toastie that was full of flavours as the sausage was quite spicy. For those who come to the cafe for breakfast, this is a nice combination to have – toast cheese, sausage and egg in one package (provided spiciness is acceptable).
Those in search of a traditional toastie can settle for a more sedate version – the Tomato Basil and Cheese. We could hardly detect the basil flavour. It was a nice simple toastie. The toasties did not wow us but was certainly the kind of food that will go well with their comforting coffee which has a tinge of fruitiness.
